Lilydale to Warburton is one of Australia's iconic Rail Trails, meandering through the Yarra Valley between Dandenong Ranges and the Great Dividing Range. You can ride there and back in a day but the plan for this ride is a more leisurely approach over two. When we stay in Warburton our usual resort is the Alpine Retreat. Or you could explore other options.

The idea is to take the time to enjoy the spectacular views of the Yarra Ranges National Park, passing through beautiful bushland, wineries and farmland along the way. The track follows the old railway line through the towns of Wandin, Woori Yallock, Seville, Launching Place, Yarra Junction, Wesburn, Millgrove and finishes in Warburton. It's a landscape of kangaroos, bird life and wildflowers between Lilydale and Mt Evelyn, and butterflies and tree ferns on the way to Wandin. More about Warburton Rail Trail here.

We'll stop for coffee at the Carriage Cafe in Seville (inspired by the trains that once travelled what is now the Warburton Trail) and have lunch at Home Hotel in Launching Place. Another option is to ride up with us on the Saturday as far as you like, perhaps at one of our stops, and then make your own return.

40 km each way.
