We challenge lovers of endurance rides to complete the ‘Big Ring’ 100km bike path loop of Melbourne’s northern bike trails. Very good fitness is required to complete the Big Ring Century!
Starting from the city, we ride out to Melbourne’s outer north-west, to the outer north-east. There are shorter distance options - the ‘Half Ring’ or ‘Part Ring’ challenge, as there are several points along the way to catch a train back to the city.
We'll journey up past the Docklands to the start of the Maribyrnong River bike path, which has both sealed surface and gravel. We will rest and refuel at the café in Brimbank Park at the end of the Maribyrnong River trail.
From here, we continue west along the Western Ring Road sealed surface bike path. Lunch will either be at Campbellfield, or at Greensborough, depending on how we are travelling as a group. After this, those who are pushing on towards the century will continue along the picturesque Plenty River trail which joins the Yarra trail at Viewbank, then continue to the city via Fairfield.
