This is a long weekend ride you can choose how long you'd like to make. The basic option is to take a train up to Tallarook Saturday morning and ride to Yea, with a possible stop for morning tea at Trawool Schoolhouse and lunch on the way, stay overnight and return the next day. This section is 40 kilometres, so it's an easy ride that will leave you some afternoon to spare in Yea. You should have no trouble making the 4:15 pm train leaving Tallarook for Melbourne on Sunday. The earlier train is 2:55 pm.

The full weekend is two nights in Yea with a day return ride on the second day up to Cathkin, taking the rail trail branch to Alexandra. It's about 36 km each way. We'll have lunch in Alexandra and return to Yea. The final day is an easy ride back to Tallarook. It's a good idea to book as soon as possible for either the one or two night options as rooms are filling fast. Club rides have previously stayed at both Yea Peppercorn Hotel and Royal Mail Hotel. They've both been renovated since last we visited so they're a little more expensive than they used to be. Other options are Yea Motel and Tartan Motel Yea. It looks like we've already booked out the single room cabins at Yea Riverside Caravan Park but there are still two bedroom villas if you have someone to share with.

A couple of people will be staying overnight in Tallarook on the Friday evening before the ride too. The plan is to meet up with the 10:27 train arriving Saturday morning and head off then. The trail surface is in good condition and it's a well serviced trail with a variety of places to stop and refresh. There are trains returning from Tallarook on New Years Day at 2:55 and 4:15 pm.
