Stop Adani Melbourne are running a protest rally on bicycles in opposition to coal power generally and the Adani mine specifically. Burn Calories Not Coal was posted on the last calendar as a replacement for a cancelled ride back in July, but it was itself postponed due to high winds on the day.
The official event site is here on Facebook. Discussion is here. It's a ride from St Kilda to Moonee Ponds. It's expected to be a reasonably large group, so we will likely be moving at a fairly slow pace and there will be a few stops along the way. The rally/ride starts at 10 am outside the office of Michael Danby, Federal Member for Melbourne Ports (Labor), 117 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda.
The route follows lakeside drive to South Melbourne, crosses into Moray St and heads north to Southbank. Then it takes Capital City Trail to Docklands and up La Trobe St to Flagstaff Gardens. After Flagstaff we head through North melbourne, do a bit of a zigzag through Queensbury St to Arden St and then join the Capital City Trail again. We ride this north onto Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and turn west at Dawson St which takes us to our finishing point, Bill Shorten's office in Hall St, Moonee Ponds.
