Starting at Federation Square we'll ride next to the Yarra along Capital City Trail as far as St Kevin's College. This is where Gardiners Creek branches off the river where we'll follow the creek trail east. The trail winds along linear parklands through to Glen Iris, and there our route takes us down Ferndale Park Trail which cuts through the suburb for three kilometres to bring us to Summerhill Park. This will be our lunch stop. It's BYO, of course, as there's nowhere to dine in. It's a picnic in the park.

Afterwards, our return is the same way on Gardiners Creek Trail for the final leg back to the city. If you want to halve the ride, Ashburton Railway Station is close to Summerhill Park.
